This blog is about my road-camping trip with my German shepherd dogs, Leben and Erde, from 19 Sept to 13 Oct 2012, which took us 3700 miles from DC to NY (and Beech Mountain), and then onto seven different provincial and national parks circling the Great Lakes. Just before Thunder Bay, Ontario, Leben became paralyzed, so we returned by way of Minnesota and then east to DC.

Day 17', wednesday, 10/03, killarney pp (#6), temp 62f, overcast, 1400+ miles...treats for dogs

One of my perceptive readers (of three, readers, that is) astutely observed that i treat the dogs a lot on this trip.  That may be correct, but it just happens to be turning out that way.  As a man of principle,  Just as i have rules of the road that i follow (see last year's rules here...http://northeasttoalaska.blogspot.com/2011/07/rules-on-road-2011.html), and numerous unwritten rules that i create as the trip progresses (e.g. Don't smoke my pipe cilmbing onto the roof rack), i also have rules for treating the dogs.  Here are some of them.

1- anytime i am treating myself
2- anytime i smoke my pipe
3- if i am eating and they have finished their meal
4-if i feel generous
5- if i feel guilty
6- if i need to bribe them to do something
7- for training purposes (e.g, leben in his CATV)
8- if they did not do something they were not supposed to do
9- if they did something they were upposed to do
10- if i feel sorry for them
11- if one of them somehow got what he/she thought was a treat
12-if they deserve one (e.g., like the photos shows, provinding solid protection for the camp and me)
13- when erde does something she should not have done, leben gets a treat, then rule  5 kicks in and erde does.(there is no counterpart for leben since he never does anything he should not do.

PS...if anyone wants to be put onto the mailing list for these blog postings, send me an email at edmulrenin@gmail.com and when i get a chance i'll add you.
